Welcome to the website of Simon Fraser. Please enjoy browsing the images displayed here from around the world, and particularly from Simon’s home region of Northumberland in the far north of England, a beautiful and unspoiled area which includes the spectacular Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, the Northumberland National Park, and two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the Northumberland Coast and the North Pennines.
Simon Fraser has been a professional photographer for 25 years, specialising in science, nature and the environment. He started photographing climbs and travels around the world, especially the Himalayas, during the 1970s, and then spent two years in Antarctica, as a mountain safety guide with the British Antarctic Survey 1981-84. He is a leading photographer with Science Photo Library, and the National Trust Photo Library, and his images have been published in many countries worldwide.
Simon is the author of ‘Xtreme Sports Photography’ (2004), and was commissioned to photograph ‘Gardens of Northumberland and the Borders’ (2006), with the writer Susie White. His work on climate change was part of an award winning National Trust exhibition at Hoopers Gallery in London in 2007. He had a solo exhibition ‘Earth, Light and Time’ with the National Trust in 2009, and in 2010 he was one of three photographers in a major exhibition of the Northumberland National Park at the Biscuit Factory, Newcastle upon Tyne, and continues to exhibit there regularly.
In 2005 he launched a publishing business producing postcards, notelets and calendars for retail outlets in Northumberland and the Lake District. He continues to work on personal photographic projects, commissions, and new assignments for Science Photo Library.
Simon lives in the North Tyne valley in the heart of Northumberland National Park with his wife and young family, and enjoys mountaineering, cross-country skiing, beekeeping and organic gardening.
