I was one of the main photographers in the National Trust's
"EXPOSED! Climate Change in Britain's Backyard" exhibition. Ten top UK
photographers were commissioned by the National Trust, including several
photographers from the Magnum Photos agency. The exhibition
opened to wide acclaim at Hoopers Gallery in London in April, and has toured
other UK venues throughout the summer. The exhibition recently received a
Clarion Award in the Climate Change Communication category from the
International Visual Arts Association (IVCA), who commented that 'Beauty,
sophistication, innovation and impact are what make this well conceived and
implemented initiative a worthy winner. By applying the fine art of
photography to illustrate how a global challenge is having a damaging local
impact, the National Trust not only brings climate change to life for its
own visitors and members but also to a wider arts community.'
There are ongoing projects with Science Photo Library, at various research institutions such as IRES (Institute for Research on the Environment and Sustainability) at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and the Centre for Life. The particular focus in 2007 has been the environment and climate change. New work from these projects, as well as images from a month in India in 2006 can be viewed at www.sciencephoto.com

This year sees the completion of a three year commission for Tarset Archive Group, documenting the geology, landscape, biodiversity, archaeology and history of the Tarset valley in the Northumberland National Park.
In recent years, I have also completed major commissions for clients such as Kielder Partnership, Northumberland National Park Authority, and the Hadrian's Wall Tourism Partnership and the National Trust, as well as my new book Gardens of Northumberland and the Borders (with Susie White). All these projects involved a wide variety of subjects such as landscape, gardens, natural history, people and outdoor recreational activities for use in promotional media, visitor centre displays and websites.

In 2005, I published a range of postcards and posters of Northumberland National Park and adjacent areas such as Kielder Forest and the Northumberland coast. There are now over 100 different designs in the range, which now includes Tyneside, and the Lake District National Park. The cards are available in more than 50 outlets across the north of England such as National Park Visitor Centres, Tourist Information Centres, National Trust shops, bookshops, tea shops and other retail outlets.
'A Year in Northumberland, 2008' calendar, published by Ergo Press, is now available. To find a retail outlet in your area, log on to www.ergopress.com

There are two popular slide show presentations which I can deliver on request. ‘Fire in the Earth’ is a spectacular journey to some of the world’s active volcanic and geothermal areas, with images of Hawaii, Yellowstone, Iceland and New Zealand. ‘Poles Apart’ is a wide ranging selection of images which compare and contrast the landscapes, wildlife, history and environment of the Arctic and Antarctic.
