Sea, sand and sky, Cornwall

One of my favourite regions of Britain is West Penwith in the far west of Cornwall. The coast between St Ives and Penzance is accessible but also very wild and unspoiled. I did a lot of rock climbing here as a university student at Southampton, and then there was a long until I started visiting the region again when my children were very young. The sea cliffs and beaches are scoured by the relentless power of the Atlantic Ocean, sometimes with huge waves and crashing surf. On calm days, the sea gently laps on pristine beaches of rough granite sand. There is something very elemental about the rugged granite coast, sea cliffs, surf, abundant wild flowers, wind, sun and rain that is very appealing. This image was taken at Porthchapel on an unusually calm day.
