Ash Tree Sunrise

For seven years, I lived close to this beautiful ash tree in the South Tyne valley at Featherstone, Northumberland. In winter, the strong but graceful shape of the tree is seen in its full glory, the branches silhouetted against the sky. In midwinter, the sun would often glimmer mysteriously through the early morning mist and fog, and on this particular morning, the light was especially lovely, a delicate blend of pale yellow, rose, and apricot. As the tree was so close to the front door of the house, its strong presence was something to be enjoyed every day of the year, but never more so than during a fine winter sunrise.
